Life Story

She had been exposed to music from a young age and began singing in her father’s church. She was soon a remarkably popular member of this choir, and she made her first recording at age 14.

Following this initial record, Franklin entered”maturity” almost instantly. She signed a recording contract with Columbia Records and eventually became a mommy when she was 15, with her first son, Clarence, Jr… Franklin had yet another boy, Eddie when she was 16.

Now, Franklin had to make a decision – be a fulltime mommy or pursue her music career. Franklin wed Ted White in 1962 and also had another kid,” Teddy” White, Jr. in 1969.

She remained with Columbia Records before 1967, when she moved to Atlantic Records, and the results were nearly immediate because of the enlarged artistic liberty she had along with her new tag. Franklin dabbled in gospel, blues and soul topics with her songs, and many of her songs from this time became leading strikes.

Blossoming Career

But, it had been her R&B job that got her the nickname, “The Queen of Soul” from the 1960s. Franklin’s work with Atlantic Records made her a global celebrity, and a few of the most famous tunes, such as Respect, were published at this time.

Franklin continued not to a single excursion except to record, along with her career totals are amazing.

Franklin has also won 17 Grammy awards in several categories, but that’s far from her just entrance into her list of achievements.

The Queen of Soul has also been acknowledged by more than 1 President of the USA. Back in 1999, President Bill Clinton granted Franklin together with all the National Medal of Arts, and President George W. Bush bestowed upon Franklin that the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

What It Means

Each of these accomplishments must make it crystal clear that Aretha Franklin is a national celebrity. She’s appeared in films such as The Blues Brothers in 1980 and sang the national anthem in her adopted hometown of Detroit before Super Bowl XL.
